So today I was granted the chance to try out a piece of beta software today. I must say that I was somewhat disappointed in the app. I thought the concept was there, the Appleesque animations were there, but they had missed some major functionality. Now I don’t want to jump the gun here as this is, after all, beta software. I cannot, however, see them getting the kind of functionality I expected in by their projected release next week.

During my usage I noticed that their integration with some core API functionality was lacking, for example the inability to respond or comment on Facebook statuses or other Facebook items, rending the app a feed reader (for Facebook at least). On another note it was required that you had to click on a status to mark it as read, which seems a little silly to me, however they do provide a ‘Mark All As Read’ button.

On a positive note, the UI is very nice and the icon, designed by Na’design (I think), looks really great!

I’ll be keeping my eye out for the release however and have my fingers crossed that ugly desktop solution, Twitteriffic, can be replaced.

So I think it was probably inevitable that something like this would happen. The increasing popularity of the Twinkle iPhone app could only come hand in hand with the occasional server fail.

I’ve been using the app myself for around two weeks now in order to compare it with my previous mobile Twitter solution, Twitteriffic. I’m still very much divided between the two. Ironically, unlike most comments I’ve heard from other blogs, I actually prefer the Twinkle interface over that of Twitterffic.

Let hope Tapulous aren’t in any trouble as I’m still awaiting the FriendBook app…

For the uninitiated, this is @rosemarydarling who I met, by chance, at the Diggnation party at Fox. Having not had a blog at the time I was limited to my Twitter account to micro blog my way through the shenanigans. She’s an Apple fan, should that have not been obvious from the above.

@cliveflint, another attendee of the Diggnation show and photographer of the above, took some pretty amazing snaps that can be seen on Flickr.

@andrewmuir and I got a pretty good place in the queue, third and fourth. If you watch the latest show be sure to check us out at the front. I also got to meet and chat with some pretty influential people at the after party, which was of course great.

So, I registered this domain a while ago now and have not had a chance to do anything with it to date. I have therefore decided to make use of it in the form of a blog. I have high hopes that it will evolve into a good resource for those of similar interest in internet entrepreneurship, web development, creativity and design.

I hope that you can spare the time to visit from time to time. More to come soon…
